This small restaurant in the trendy Federal Hill neighborhood of Baltimore is popular with local patrons for a reason, and that reason is the authentic Mediterranean dishes served fresh. In fact, the dishes are prepared in a kitchen that is located right next to the “bar” area seating (although no alcohol is served), so you can watch your meal come together before your eyes. Limited table seating is also available, but most local residents seem to get their orders to-go, as the register was bustling with pick-up orders throughout my meal. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free menu items are clearly noted on the menu, which features salads, meat and rice platters, pita pizzas, and authentic Mediterranean appetizers, including spanakopita, baba ghannouj, falafel, and dolmas. I split the “Medley” appetizer and a chicken kabob plate with a friend and found the food to be extremely flavorful, fresh, and healthy. The food comes out quickly, and if you’re interested in eating at the restaurant but want a glass of wine, Baba’s lets you bring your own alcohol! Traditional desserts are also offered.
