Lake Montebello Dr, Baltimore, MD
Located just slightly to the northeast of the Inner Harbor, Lake Montebello is part of the Baltimore Marathon course and a popular place for residents to exercise. The 1.6-mile loop around the lake is divided into separate lanes for cyclists and pedestrians. Trash cans, benches and water fountains are available around the lake, and stations for circuit training are also available, as is common around Baltimore’s recreational areas. When I visited on a Monday night in August, the loop was packed with runners, cyclists and families enjoying the evening air. The drive to Lake Montebello is short but does require travel through some rougher parts of town, but don’t be deterred – the neighborhood surrounding the lake is safer and there are always plenty of people out and about. It’s possible to get additional mileage in by combining Lake Montebello with other nearby parts of the marathon route as well.
