A household name in the United Kingdom, Pret A Manger has recently expanded to the United States, bringing with it its special brand of natural, healthy pre-made foods. Before you stop reading at “pre-made,” hear me out. I was skeptical too. There are three Boston locations, and all of Pret’s items are grab-n-go style and are freshly made throughout the day. The calorie and nutritional information is neatly printed on each label for quick reference, so you’ll always know what you’re getting. To truly test out the idea of pre-made “freshness,” I ventured into the restaurant near closing time and grabbed a soup and sandwich. My Cheddar, Bacon, Spinach and Kale sandwich tasted like it had just been made, and the soup was piping hot – I was impressed. Fresh fruit, parfaits, and desserts are available in addition to the wraps, sandwiches, soups, and salads. If you’re looking for healthy, natural food with a conscience, look no further – Pret a Manger donates all the pre-made food that is left over at the end of each business day, so you’ll know you’re getting fresh food each morning and helping someone else each night. The only downside to this restaurant may be the pricing. While it’s definitely not expensive at $11 for a small soup and a sandwich, the portion sizes may be a bit on the small side for the pricing.
