2 Murray Boulevard, Charleston, SC
It might be the most popular tourist spot in Charleston, but the Battery is also a great place for fitness enthusiasts to do some sightseeing while getting a workout in! The massive houses lining the Charleston Harbor are breathtaking, and the cannons at White Point Garden provide some great fodder for history buffs. This fortified seawall can be found at the southern end of the Charleston Peninsula, where the Ashley River and Cooper River meet, and visitors will enjoy sweeping views of the stately antebellum homes, Fort Sumter, and the Sullivan’s Island lighthouse. The promenade along the sea wall is concrete and can be packed with tourists during the day, but it makes for a beautiful morning or evening run or bike ride if you’re in the downtown area. The Battery can easily be combined with many of Charleston’s other historic streets to boost your mileage, and a jaunt up East Bay Street can take you over the Cooper River Bridge into Mount Pleasant, where you can explore the towns of Mount Pleasant, Sullivan’s Island, and Isle of Palms. The possibilities are limitless!
