It sometimes seems like eating healthy comes at a cost  – it can be hard to find gourmet food that won’t have you loosening up your belt a few notches! The Five Loaves Café seeks to remedy this problem with their “chef driven concept with a focus on healthy, fresh, and vegetarian friendly foods, as well as being sensitive of gluten-free diets and allergies” with its two locations in Downtown Charleston and Mount Pleasant. Featuring free range chicken and angus beef in addition to locally sourced pasta, vegetables, and nuts, Five Loaves Cafe works hard to accommodate all diets. To test the concept thoroughly, I dined with a friend of mine who suffers from a number of food allergies and eats a gluten-free diet. She was not only impressed with the selection, but also loved the flavor of her dish! The menu is easy to read, with gluten-free and vegetarian items clearly marked, and a sizeable selection of sandwiches and entrees at various prices. Five Loaves Cafe is not only food you’ll feel good about – it’s food you’ll be coming back for time and again during your trip to Charleston!
