Wannamaker County Park is a fantastic resource for those looking to maintain their fitness on the road. The main portion of the park features approximately 2.5 miles of paved asphalt walking and biking trails and 2.5 miles of nature trails, plus a large dog park where Fido can romp off-leash! The dog park features separate areas for small and large dogs, making it safe for all breeds. Like all Charleston County parks, a $1 entry fee is required, but you’ll get more than your money’s worth. The center of the park features a snack bar, restrooms, and shaded pavilions in addition to bike rentals and kayak and paddle boat rentals (for use in the central five acre lagoon). The bike rentals come in both child and adult sizes and are of the hybrid variety – not great for speed, but a perfect way to enjoy some activity as a family. The trails winding through the park are asphalt, fairly wide, and are almost entirely shaded, making Wannamaker County Park a great place to work out in the summer!

An additional feature of the Wannamaker County Park is the North Trail. This trail, accessible from Goose Creek (north of the park), was created specifically for mountain biking but is also open to hikers and pedestrians. Natural trails are somewhat of a luxury in Charleston, so the North Trail is valuable to cyclists and pedestrians alike. At eight miles in length, the trail features sharp turns and some minor elevation changes, so pedestrians should stay alert. The trail is entirely shaded and is in a forest, so bring bug spray during the warmer months! Seriously.
