A go-to destination for much of the business set thanks to its numerous convenient downtown locations, the so-called uber sandwich makers offer homemade, whole grain breads and pretzel buns baked fresh and topped with exceptional ingredients (everything is certified organic!), and crafted flavor combinations. The Alaskan smoked salmon sandwich is my favorite, and I’ve got several friends who agree.  The organic turkey and farmhouse cheddar and smoked turkey and avocado sandwiches are also delicious, but then again, so is everything on the menu. Bretzel does offer breakfast, but they do not open until 10 am on the weekends, so it is not for the early morning set.

The Ella’s salad is a fresh option with decadent toppings, including local mozzarella, roasted grape tomatoes, and roasted cashews, among others, but it is likely not substantial enough to be eaten as a meal on its own.  It is also important to note that while the sandwiches are made fresh and to order, the salads are not, and cannot be made without cheese or any of the other ingredients listed.

Bretzel has a great wecken (smaller bun) and soup/salad lunch combo for about $10, which is a fantastic value given the quality of ingredients and location. The full-size baguette sandwiches will run you about $10, and come with a side (soynuts/chips/almonds). Many vegetarian options are available, and gluten free bread is offered upon request.  Bretzel also has full service espresso bar capabilities and functions much like a European market in that way—coffee is offered alongside a glut of specialty chocolate bars and teas, and crafted sodas. Bretzel is also very eco-conscious—the restaurant is set up for full recycling and composting.

The casual interior boasts clean, white modern European lines, and you’re sure to feel comfortable alone or with a group. Bretzel is a great for stopping and grabbing a quick meal, but food can also be ordered to go. You can also order ahead and pick up. With convenient access off the L in a variety of downtown locations, you’re sure to find a Bretzel nearby!
