Native Foods Cafe
218 S Clark St, Chicago, IL
Mon – Sat: 10:30 am – 9 pm, Sun: 11 am – 7 pm
Native Foods Cafe is a paradise for the healthy and special-needs eater, and especially for vegans. Originally founded in California, Native Foods Cafe is a “chef-crafted vegan restaurant serving homemade, fresh food.” The entire menu is 100% plant-based, and the menu offers a great deal of gluten-free, dairy-free, and organic options. The restaurant also offers cooking demos and community days if you’re in town for awhile!
Superfoods like kale and quinoa feature heavily on the menu, as are tempeh and seitan – it’s a vegan restaurant, after all! For those who have had trouble finding a satisfying vegan meal in the past, don’t worry! The Caribbean Jerk Kale Salad is delicious and filling, while the Sweet Potato Fries with Chipotle dipping sauce are as good as any you’ll find!
The atmosphere in Native Foods Cafe is cozy and can be a bit hectic when it is lunch-time, so don’t be shy about grabbing a table when you can and claiming it. Whether you’re eating in or taking your food to go, the meal will be freshly prepared and then brought to you. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and will happily get you anything you need, so don’t be afraid to ask. Be sure to try one of their specialty infusion waters or teas while you’re there!
I’d recommend walking to the downtown location, as parking is very hard to come by. If you’d prefer to drive, head to the Wicker Park location, which has meter parking. Prices are about $8-12 for the entrees, $5 and under for the baked goods and sides. Native Foods Cafe has competitive prices, exceptional quality, a fun and relaxed environment, excellent service, and tons of dietary accommodations for those with restrictions, so it’s definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Chicago area!
