This natural area close to downtown Colorado Springs features great convenient mountain biking, hiking, and trail running. Asphalt bike lanes run through the park, but many visitors opt to test their skills on the trails. The natural trails are marked with one of three difficulty levels, making it easy to choose your challenge for the day. With 18 parking lots throughout the park, starting right next to the trailhead you’re heading towards is a breeze. Bathrooms are available at some picnic areas, but it’s best not to count on them. Although there are trail markings along the way, there are many “unofficial” trails that have been blazed, so it’s easy to get lost. Make sure you print out a trail map or take a picture of the large map at the entrance of the park in case you get lost. Make sure you bring plenty of water, because shade is limited, and make a note of your parking lot number so that you can find your way back using the main road if needed.
