24335 The Old Road, Newhall, CA
Open daily dawn to dusk
Towsley Canyon is a great hiking spot for both novice and experienced hikers. With panoramic views overlooking the Santa Clarita Valley, it is a great place to enjoy the beautiful Southern California weather. The park offers both a 2 mile and a 5 mile loop. The shorter trail is a moderate trail with less of an altitude gain and less shade. This is a about an hour-plus long hike depending on fitness level and is gorgeous in the Spring. The longer trail gains about 1500 feet in altitude and boasts more shade. Take your time on this trail and enjoy the gorgeous views.
Both trails are kept clean by fantastic volunteers year round, so make sure you do your part and help keep the trails clean! Always keep to trails when hiking to preserve the natural environment. Hikers, runners, and cyclists can all be found on the trail when the weather is right, so be alert. Santa Clarita is known to get very high temperatures in the summer, so sunrise and sunset hikes are often popular that time of year.
As an added bonus, Towsley Canyon is perhaps one of the easiest trail locations to find in the Santa Clarita Valley. From I-5, exit Calgrove Blvd. and proceed South on the Old Road. After the first signal, you will see the entrance to the park on your right side. You may park outside the park or in the first lot on your right for free. Bathrooms, water fountains, and a pavilion are all available, and leashed dogs are welcome.
