Like many people, I’d be a lot more inclined to go vegan if I had a personal chef who could whip up vegan delicacies at the drop of a hat. Since the preparation can be complicated, I look to places like Angelica Kitchen to serve me well-prepared meals that are healthy, delicious and most importantly, deceptively vegan.
Angelica serves a wide variety of plates. My favorite is the Ole Man Seitan, their take on a burrito. The Ole Man is a very large (like take home half and eat for lunch the next day large) wrap of seitan and roasted veggie mix topped with lime-jalapeno tofu sour cream and spicy mole sauce. It’s not only delicious, it’s healthy, too!
In addition to the constantly rotating menu of seasonal, creatively prepared plates, Angelica Kitchen also offers your standard soups, salads and sandwiches and a few varieties of bread like ginger-carrot and corn. The dragon bowls are also highly recommended, and they come with rice, tofu, beans, steamed veggies and a choice of dressing. If you’re more indecisive or looking for a little variety, check out the mix-and-match pantry plates of kale, hummus, tempeh, kimchee, kraut, salad, veggie of the day and walnut-lentil pate.
Located in the East Village, Angelica Kitchen may be a bit of a hike from the corporate world, but I’m a big advocate of venturing and exploring the whole city if work gives you the opportunity. Besides, with healthy, delicious vegan fare like this, it’s worth the walk!
