A bit off the beaten path, the Chalco Hills Recreation Area offers a more secluded alternative to Zorinsky Lake. The 6-mile loop around the central lake is a concrete multi-use path, but there is also a short woodchip nature trail and cross country loop for those preferring to run on a softer surface. The Recreation Area is very well maintained and features a number of benches along the route as well as water and bathrooms at the nature center.  Although Chalco Hills is somewhat secluded compared to Zorinsky Lake, I did not feel unsafe or alone at any point during my visit. There are slight rolling elevation changes throughout the loop, which serve to make the route more interesting but do not provide any significant elevation gain or loss. Some turns prohibit extremely fast cycling, so this is not the place to get in a speed workout on the bike. The park opens at 6 am and is open until 10 pm seven days a week, providing a great resource for fitness enthusiasts who need a flexible schedule. Fishing is also available at Wehrspann Lake in the center of the park.
