Wissahickon Valley Park

Wissahickon Valley Park

Philadelphia, PA, 19918

Open daily

Wissahickon Valley Park is truly a natural oasis in the midst of a large city. This beautiful park has the ability to make you feel like you are miles away from civilization even though Center City is just a few miles away! The park is a popular destination for trail runners and mountain bikers alike. Views of the Wissahickon Creek are available thorought the park, which is heavily shaded by old-growth trees. Several larger multi-use paths run through the park, including Forbidden Drive and Northwest Avenue. These paths are well-packed dirt, very wide, and open to runners, hikers, cyclists, and equestrians. The many side trails branching off from the multi-use paths vary in difficulty and technicality, so it is best to consult the Friends of Wissahickon website when trying to decide on a trail.  The Park is largely considered the best place for hiking and mountain biking near Philadelphia and is very popular without ever feeling too crowded. Dogs are welcome in the park as long as they are on a leash, and three public stables are a feature of the park. All cyclists must obtain a permit before using the park, and cyclists are allowed only on trails marked with green. Permits are available through Fairmount Park and can be purchased online. Bathrooms, benches, and trashcans are located throughout the park, but most are found on the major multi-use paths. The Friends of Wissahickon website has a link to Google Maps that indicates the location of various trailheads, making it a great resource when deciding where to park! The Park is also accessible by bus.
