When traveling, finding healthy options on the road can be challenging. If you were looking for somewhere that meets this criteria when traveling through Salt Lake City and saw a diner, you might continue on without stopping. If you were driving by The Blue Plate Diner, you would be passing up some of the best food in the Intermountain West. You will find the Blue Plate Diner in Sugar House which is convenient for any of the eastern and central neighborhoods. Parking is along the street and people will walk for several blocks at busy times of the day/week. This restaurant was recognized by The Food Networks’ Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and was given praise by Guy Feiri for their fantastic cuisine.
Don’t judge the food by any menu you find on the internet as they offer much more than any list you will be able to find online. This restaurant does have your traditional diner fare but also has a wide variety of very healthy options of the Tex-Mex variety. Everything on the menu is made in-house. Some of the healthy options include vegetarian burritos (add tofu, chicken, slow roasted pulled pork or beef upon request), tofu veggie scrambles, as well as great salads and wraps.
When I was in for breakfast on a typical busy Saturday morning, I had their black bean and tofu burrito (I added cheese) with homemade salsa. The quality and portion size were phenomenal and the service was excellent. The eclectic atmosphere and pictures on the wall made for great conversation.
