Locals say that Sweetgreen is “so D.C.!” and one trip to one of the many locations of this regional salad eatery quickly reveals its popularity. Salads are mixed and made-to-order and can also be put into a wrap. Eight seasonal salad suggestions are offered (nutritional information is provided) or you can make your own from a variety of proteins and toppings, including chicken, shrimp, falafel, bacon, and egg. Vegan items and dressings are clearly noted on the menu, and the foods are locally sourced and organic; in fact, a board next to the menu lists the origins of each of the fresh ingredients. The salads are good, filling portions, even to me – and I’m not much of a salad eater because I generally don’t find them filling. A piece of bread is included with each salad if you need to get some carbs in, and the flavorful, creative salads range in price from $8-12. I sampled the Santorini – a blend of chickpeas, feta, grapes, and shrimp – and I truly enjoyed the combination of flavors and the value I got for the money. Even if you’re not much of a salad person, you’re likely to find something at Sweetgreen that you enjoy.
