Home to the famous Cherry Blossom Festival, West Potomac Park includes Washington D.C.’s Tidal Basin. The paved 1.75-mile loop is beautiful in all seasons and is also very convenient; located close to the National Mall, it can be added on to other trails for additional mileage. Benches, trash cans, and water fountains are available along the loop, and bathrooms are available near the monuments, which include the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial and the Thomas Jefferson Memorial. The well-shaded loop offers the option of following directly next to the water (careful, there’s no rail!) or on a path through the park, which may be better for cyclists. The path along the Potomac River is asphalt, while the Tidal Basin path is made of compacted stone. To get a longer run or ride in, make sure to do a loop around the National Mall and through East Potomac Park!
